To take advantage of the “grandfathering” or transition-period under the new law, you generally must have at least one ?Grad PLUS loan issued (i.e., originated and disbursed) before July 1, 2026.
If you meet that condition, you’ll typically be permitted to continue borrowing under the current rules (for your program) for up to three academic years (or until you complete your program, whichever comes first) under the old Grad PLUS eligibility.
